The absolutely last pre-holiday round-up

December seems to be kicking us all in parts of the anatamony we didn;t even know we had. I se a bunch of half-done Cinxias in the corner there, under the tree, and another bunch in the corner over there, next to the menorah. Thank the stars above, in Israel Chanukah just isn't that big a deal, so all my WiPs are for me. I am chugging away; less than a 1/4 inch to go before the decreases. I may actually finish this up in time for my next round of conventions in March.

Chloe has put aside her Cinxia for a while, still longing for the perfect dpns. The whooshing sound you hear was her self-imposed Christmas deadline passing by--maybe Valentine's Day instead?

Katie's is on hold, too, until holiday knitting is done and vacation commences.

Now Chelle, she's my hero--she's only got the collar to go. Gettin' ready to cross that finish line...

Pre-holiday roundup

Sorry about not posting last week - work got a little crazy with everyone trying to finish projects before the end of term (I am at a university). Here's where our collective Cinxia knitters are:

Moze is recovering from being seriously overworked but has still managed to attach the sleeves and get about an inch into the yoke.

Chelle is on her decrease rows before the collar, but has some holiday knitting to finish first - check out the adorable jumper!

Chloe really wants to start her sleeves but is also conflicted by fair isle mittens and the new Knitty. Add the new Interweave Knits to that and it's pretty much where I am at too, except that I'm on the second sleeve.

Jeanne fnished and blocked her Cinxia, but has decided that it would wear better with a little more ease, so it's going back on the needles. Any photos, Jeanne?

Blogless (?) Cynthia and Deb ask whether anyone has tried different stitch patterns for their Cinxias...Sheila is using a seed stitch edging and regular stockinette for the body (bet that goes faster). Sheila, let us all know if that changes the hang of the garment.

I really want to finish mine by January; after I prepare for the Hanukkah/Xmas party we're hosting Sunday, I'm hoping it'll be all knitting all the time for me. Famous last words...

Cinxia versus December

Hi everyone! I hope all in the US had a nice Thanksgiving, and the rest of you had a relaxing week.
Here's where we all are for the start of December:

I am starting the second sleeve. I had hoped to do that on my ten hour drive to see my family, but ended up working on a pair of socks for my mom instead, in Cascade Fixation (she loved them).

New members Haze and Jeanne are on their first and second sleeves, respectively. Welcome, Haze and Jeanne!

Chelle has recovered from her ripping out and is back on track.

Jackie made a cute brioche hat and sewed (literally) her Veste Everest, so maybe now it's Cinxia time?

Moze is hurtling between conventions for work, and I might get to meet her in person next week. Hey Moze, I'll be the one in the half-finished sweater with one sleeve. Can't miss me.

Frog City has been a popular destination this week. Chelle lost about 15 rows in her decreases, and I lost 3" off my sleeve.

Chloe is still searching for dpns she can love.

Katie has a finished sleeve behind her and a long car ride ahead of her.

Mary has started her Cinxia! And with all that holiday weekend car time, who knows how far she'll get before next week?

Sheila is starting her visit to Sleeve Island, and Yvonne is looking at her yarn, waiting for the right moment to cast on.

And we have one casualty of a bad yarn vendor. After 6 weeks of waiting for her yarn, Carey is giving up and moving on to another sweater. But she says she'll "still be a voyeur" here.

Chelle is done with both her sleeves. You can put them all on one needle, we know you can!

Chloe has found needles for her sleeves. Having to shop in Paris -- gee, that's a fate we wouldn't wish on anyone (riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight…)

Deb is through her slip stitch border. Grape Peruvian Highland--sounds yummy!

Kimberly got her yarn. Now to the cast-on!

Well lookie here - JennyRaye is the first of our group to finish! Wow, what a great job. Jenny take a bow!

Chloe is well into the body of hers and looks like she's nearly ready to start the sleeves once she goes to Paris (yes, I'm jealous and will admit it.)

Looks like Chelleis a champion multitasker - she has Cinxia underway as well as a couple of children's projects.

Moze is on her way out of Florida and wisely is working on socks this week. A cardigan might be hard to schlep between flights and have to keep stowing and pulling out again when you get a chance to knit. Be sure to check out the fancy lawnmower Moze borrowed from her neighbor. And I do mean Neighhhhbor.

I had to rip and restart my first sleeve and am about 8 or 9 inches into it. As I too like to have several things on the needles at once, I've also been working a pair of Fixation socks for myself and some in Knitpicks Dancing for my husband.

So, go look at Jenny's finished sweater for inspiration, and Moze and I will check in again next week.

Carey's still waiting on her yarn. Maybe if we all think yarny thoughts the seller will finally ship it out?

Chelle's arms are still a problem, but only when working this pattern. I understand--the twisting is somehow so much harder than straight knitting!

Deb is trying to decide between Peruvian Highland Wool and Cascade 220. Preferences, anyone?

Jenny has finished the lower body portion, and has started on the first sleeve. She's using the Magic Loop method, "because DPN's seem so unwieldy, though I have to say that the Magic Loop is not the most elegant method in the world."
Here's the beginning of her first sleeve--what a great color!

Katie is marooned on sleeve island. Maybe I should invite her over for a drink, since I've been there since forever.

Tuesday Round Up

Becca's started off with the sleeves and is 4" into the first cuff. Holiday knitting is getting in the way, though.

Carey's still waiting on her yarn. Send her good mail vibes, everyone!

Chelle is just about finished her first sleeve and waiting for the fun. Rest those arms, woman! (And who knows--maybe her newly knitting 8 years old can do the second sleeve. It's just knits and purls, right?)

Chloe is recovering from a "small" measuring accident and may hold off on continuing until Cinxia can become travel knitting. Ooh la la, Cinxia in Paris!

Evelyn has cast on for both sleeves, using two circs. Good to hear that someone is still loving the pattern!

Jen has attached her first sleeve and is working her second sleeve on a circ, using the Magic Loop method.

Katie has started work on the first sleeve but is now considering a pattern re-design. Anyone have hints on doing the twisted section inside-out?

Mary B's Cinxia is working its way up her HALFPINT list. Soon, soon…

Tracy is on row 22 and, like many of us, cursing the twisted pattern.

Me? Well, it's traditional not to engage in handcrafts on the Sukkot holiday, so I'm still on the slip stitch pattern of the first sleeve.

One sleeve to go....

I wrote a more extensive update at my site lovetobikeandknit but thought I'd go ahead and share my progress here--hope that's okay. Finally finished the first sleeve and went ahead and joined it to the body--I know, I jumped the gun, but I'd rather do that than risk some of the stitches falling off my needles--besides, it gave me a look at how it's progressing. I'll cast-on the second sleeve in just a few minutes or later this evening, depending on how things work out. Haze asked about yarn--I'm using Galway Highland Heather #742--really like the color--nice heathered brick red. Price was about $6.35/skein at my lys--210 yds per skein. Is anyone using a circular needle rather than dpns for the sleeves? Wish I had a small sz 7 circular. The first sleeve took virtually a whole skein--is that right? Also, do you guys know how to pronounce the name of our sweater? I'm thinking sin-zee-ah (or -uh).

Tuesday is Knitalong Day

Well hello and happy mid-October to you all. It has finally stopped raining here in Boston, and it's my turn to check on the progress of all our lovely Cinxia knitters.

Moze is working on the body of hers...an "Oranginxia"?

Chelle is trucking along and has been taking breaks here and there to make some very cute children's items.

Yarnyogi is on the body but is less than enchanted by twisted stockinette as it's hard to watch TV at the same time. I know what you mean.

Jackie is caught up in Halloween hoopla!

Carol wonders why the sleeves are designed with a seemingly wrong number of cast on stitches. I just started the first sleeve last night and can verify that that pattern 'evens out" at the end of the 4th row (pattern repeat), but it was a matter of trust to get there.

Chloe is on the slip stitch body trim and also got to go Rhinebeck (I am jealous).

Jen is on the first sleeve and not exactly enjoying it.

I am in the same boat, sort of - I finally picked up a pair of sz US10 double points this past week (I'm using a bulkier yarn) to start on the sleeves. My 6 year old son was with me and reminded me that I had promised him some Fuzzyfeet from Knitty, so I tested out the new Bryspun dpns (love them!) on a pair of Noro Kureyon slippers this week. They finished felting yesterday so I began the first Cinxia sleeve. And yes, although the number of cast on stitches just seems wrong, the sleeve slip stitch pattern does work out after the 4th row. Though I am considering ripping out the inch of sleeve I have because I realize that my yarn is too bulky to fold the finished sleeves up - it would look like I am wearing black 'floaties" outside of the swimming pool. The pattern is written assuming you will fold the sleeves and has you knit the wrong side. If I continue my started sleeve I guess I could knit the twisted stockinette backwards... Hmm. I didn't think this through (who, moi?). Another thing I wish I had done - *not* cut the yarn after the armholes because I didn't want to retrieve new ball of yarn from box from under my sleeping daughter's bed so I could start the sleeve last night. She admitted, sheepishly.

But enough about me...any other updates?

Tuesday round-up time:

Carey is still waiting on her yarn shipment.

Carol has gotten to about 2" below the underarm seam. (She's working the pattern top-down.) She'll be continuing to work on the project until it
gets to be about 3 or 4" below the underarm seam, and then waiting for her move back to the US and additional yarn.

In between working on hats, Chelle has completed about 7" up from the cast-on. She says it's slow going and asks
Am I missing something or is this twisted stockingette just awkward? Are Continental knitters having an easier time?

Chloe has finished four repeats of the slip stitch pattern.

Jenny has finished the lower portion, up to the bind-off for the armholes. She has a word of caution about the "unbalanced" fronts:
Now I know why the markers are placed so that the right and left fronts do not have an even number of stitches - that way they DO end up with an even number of stitches after the bind-off. Many sweaty and mumbling hours later, I think I managed to correct my "correction." And yet, now I have
the correct number of stitches on the right front and the back, but I am missing one stitch on the left front. So, I put it in the marination chamber for a few days, hoping for inspiration, while I work on "Blackberry." I may just add a stitch surreptitiously ;)

Katie is also up to the armholes on hers. Anyone have a few extra Denise cables to loan her for the sleeves?

Mary B. has Cinxia on her to-cast-on list. She's planning to use some Highland Wool from Elann.

Tracy is about 10 rows into the twisted stockingette.

And I'm 5.5 inches up from the cast on. This Cotton-Ease is murder on the hands, but it knits up quickly and crisply. Like labor, the product will make me forget the effort, I'm sure.

Our weekly update

Moze is celebrating Rosh Hashanah, so I am your intrepid reporter this week. Chelle has finished the slip stitch trim and has moved on to the twisted stockinette. Nice color, Chelle. CarolSch seems to be concocting her own customizations to the pattern - go Carol! Moze is restarting her Cinxia after the silk yarn gave less than pleasing results. She is thinking about using some orange Cotton Ease - Moze, don't abandon us for Samus! :) And currently blogless Jenny has figured out the number of stitches she needs for the twisted stockinette portion (and I am so glad it wasn't just me who had trouble with that) and is underway. And I am about 7.5 inches into the pattern. I'm off to a conference for the rest of the week so maybe I can knit during some of the sessions.

Tuesday is (supposed to be) knitalong day

Well, a busy work week and relatives visiting meant I didn't get to do much of a roundup the other day. Which is ok because most of us are just getting started. Chelle is swatching, Jenny is having stitch count issues (Jenny, are you on our list here? Do you have a URL?), and I am about three inches into the twisted stockinette.

A few administratve details

1. We've got a button on the sidebar. Take it, store it, use it--you know the drill. We're still open to new buttons, though--I know my strong points and graphic design isn't one of them.

2. Late starters are always welcome. In fact, I'm still swatching and probably won't start until mid-October, and whatever I don't finish by early November will have to wait until early December. I'll be lucky if I finish my Cinxia by the end of 2005.

3. Katie and I would like to do a regular Tuesday round-up. I'll try to keep an eye on everyone's blogs, but it would be even easier for us if you could post updates here or to our e-mail addresses.

I just swatched some doubled coned silk chenille and hit gauge perfectly. I've got 3 lbs, so it should be enough. But do I really want to do this in black? I think I may swatch up the same yarn in a sand color and put it up to a vote.

Hey. So Moze and others from the Knittyboard suggested a Cinxia Knitalong. I figured I'd set up a blog - we'll figure out who's hosting the knitalong later (I'm happy to, but don't want to step on anyone's toes).

I'm using Berroco Softwist Bulky, in Pitch Black - have just finished the slip stitch trim and starting the twisted stockinette.

Any other takers?
